Thrombosed Hemorrhoids
Hemorrhoids are quite common with many people suffering from it throughout the world. Though hemorrhoids are generally harmless, it is when the excessive bleeding causes the hemorrhoids to clot inside the anus to lead to thrombosed hemorrhoids that things become a bit dangerous. This is also known as thrombosis of hemroids.
Thrombosed hemorrhoids are found as clots in the veins of the rectum, and are dangerous as if blood flow is completely blocked here; there is a possibility of gangrene settling in.
There are so many micro vessels found in a hemorrhoid and when a hemorrhoid develop into a thrombosed hemorrhoid, these micro vessels can temporarily save the main blood vessel that had developed into the thrombosed hemroids from cell death.
Clots that stay for too long can become gangrenous
If these micro vessels did not exist, then the tissues found in the thrombosed hemorrhoid would die and start rotting within twelve hours of its development. This is because with oxygen deprivation, it is only a matter of minutes before cell death takes place in the thrombosed hemorrhoids. And if this clot is left to stay there long enough, it is very probable that the hemorrhoids become gangrenous and require hemorrhoid surgery.
It is however very unlikely that the clot of the hemroid will escape to dissolve into the body, or to migrate to some other part of the body which is even more dangerous.
This is because a clogging of a blood system feeding a muscle through this blood clot can lead to muscle death. And if this clot happens to block one of the main hear blood vessels, then there is a possibility of a heart attack occurring too.
The causes for thrombosed hemorrhoids
Reduced blood flow leads to blood clots, and is the main cause for a thrombosed hemorrhoid. Another cause for this condition is the damaging of the hemorrhoid vein wall.
This is when the vein wall bleeds; and the body’s reaction to a damaged blood vessel is to create a healing clot. Normally this clotting is not dangerous in hemorrhoids as this blood vessel repair only seals the area.
Surgical removal of hemorrhoids
The symptoms of hemorrhoids are extreme swelling, extreme pain and its color getting turned into blue or purple. Thrombosed hemroids may need some minor hemorrhoids surgery as treatment where anesthetic is first injected into it.
It is then sliced open, wherein its contents are squeezed out. This done, you usually feel much relieved, and the most you postoperative care you will need will be some oral pain killers.
This process of injecting, slicing and squeezing the thrombosed hemorrhoids is the best treatment for the condition as there is little risk of the hemorrhoid undergoing thrombosis again.
Vitamin E helps in improving blood flow in thrombosed hemorrhoids.
There is not much use trying out home remedies for hemorrhoids as they don’t provide any long term benefit, and there is always the possibility of the recurrence of the thrombosed hemorrhoid.
However if the thrombosed hemorrhoid need not be operated on, you may be advised to take a sitz bath to restore the blood flow of the hemorrhoid. Taking 4000 IU vitamin E thrice a day is also beneficial in dilating the thrombosed hemorrhoid so that blood flows through it easily.
