Hemorrhoids Symptoms
Hemroids are also commonly known as piles and hemorrhoids, refers to the medical condition in which the blood vessels in the tissues of the rectal area become swollen and inflamed. There is not one description of hemorrhoids symptoms that fits all cases, since each case may vary from one patient to another, depending on the type of hemroids and the degree of their severity. Two main types of hemroids are internal hemroids and external hemroids. Other conditions associated with any of these two main types include anal fissures, abscesses, itching, burning, and irritation of the rectal area. A number of causes for hemroids may be held responsible for the development, which certainly is a quite prevalent disease across the world. Here we’ll list the commonly reported symptoms of hemroids.
Signs and Symptoms of Hemroids
Of the several signs and symptoms of hemorrhoids, some of the most important and disturbing are listed below:
Swelling
As early hemorrhoid symptoms, the rectal veins become swollen, mostly as a result of friction and pressure at the time of passing stool during defecation. Other reasons possibly accounting for this swelling of veins include: lifting and/carrying heavy weights or load; excess weight or obesity; and pregnancy (in women) in the case of female hemroids.
Pain
Pain is one of the common symptoms of hemorrhoids. Patients of hemorrhoids experience pain around the anal walls when they assume different postures i.e. sitting, standing, and walking etc. The pain gains intensity while the patient is passing a bowel motion.
Discomfort
Another one of the frequently experienced hemorrhoid symptoms is discomfort in the anal region. The patient has a persistent feeling of discomfort in and around the anus. During defecation, the discomfort gets worse.
Smelly Stools
Hemorrhoids is often characterized by excessively smelly stool, sometimes accompanied by bleeding.
Burning and Itching
Nearly all hemroids cases, especially internal hemorrhoids, start with the experience of burning and itching of the anal area. Many patients also experience a nappy rash type of reaction.
Loosened Hemroid Tissues
One of the symptoms of hemroids, frequently experienced by patients of internal hemroids in their advanced stage of the disease, is hanging out of some of the anal tissue after passing stool. This is usually the result of prolong straining to which the anal muscles are subject during defecation.
Bleeding
Bleeding from the swollen rectal tissues, especially during defecation, is also one of the main symptoms of hemroids. The characteristic color of blood seen in cases of bleeding hemroids is bright red. Dark red (or black) blood, on the contrary, indicates some other medical problem.
Appearance and Feel of Hemroids
Another one of the common hemorrhoid symptoms is the feel and appearance of swollen hemroid tissues. The patients may, for the first time, be alarmed and even scared upon feeling the hemroids, usually when washing the rectal area. External hemorrhoids are commonly felt as a small lump. Prolapsed hemroids appear as a bunch of grapes. They develop inside the anal area but are loosened and come out, usually during defecation. Thrombosed hemroids are comparatively larger and somewhat tight.
