Severe Hemroids by Banov Classification
Banov classified the various types of hemroids into four main degrees that correspond to the severity of the condition. The least severe type of hemorrhoids is that of 1st degree which do not prolapse (protrude out of the anus). Second degree hemroids prolapse while passing stool but are reduced on its own afterwards. Third degree hemroids do not reduce after defecation and have to be reduced manually. The fourth degree hemroids are the most severe hemroids as they cannot be manually reduced.
Surgery for Severe Hemroids
Severe hemorrhoids is best treated via surgery in order to provide long-term relief from the symptoms. The surgical procedures vary in their nature, depending on the kind and severity of hemroids. A rather simple form of surgery for less severe cases of hemroids is sclerotherapy in which a chemical (like phenol) is injected in, or close, to the affected tissue so as to provide hemorrhoid relief from irritation and inflammation. Another method to cope with severe cases of hemroids is cauterization i.e. burning the affected tissues with a wire heated by electricity. Like sclerotherapy, cauterization works for small hemroid tissues. Another simple form of hemroid surgery is the banding hemroid surgery, also known as latex band ligation. It is used primarily for prolapsed hemroids. The surgeon ties a strong rubber around the affected tissue in order to cut off the blood supply to it. This causes the hemroid tissue to deaden and fall off in a few days. Frightening as it may sound; latex band ligation is a simple, fast, and effective type of hemroid surgery.
Hemroid cryotherapy surgery is another type of surgical procedure
used as hemorrhoid
treatment. In this method, the hemroids are frozen with specialized
instruments such that the affected tissues shrivel and die in a
few days. Yet another type of surgical treatment for hemroids is
the stapling hemorrhoids surgery in which the surgeon repositions
the hemroid tissues, cuts off the excess part, and staples the rest.
This surgical method is known for reducing the recurrence of hemorrhoids.
Hemorrhoidectomy
is the name of the surgical procedure used in cases of the most
severe hemroids. In this method, the affected hemroids, and also
the tissue the hemroids come from, are surgically removed in an
invasive manner.
